About us
Our mission
Enhanced English Skills for Employment serves immigrant clients who would like to improve their English skills and increase their opportunity for success in the Manitoba labour market. We prepare clients for professional certification and workplace culture in speaking, reading, writing, listening and understanding.
Our courses
Enhanced English Skills for Employment provides courses that have been developed in response to client needs. Our courses are focused, allowing professional immigrants to concentrate on the areas of study that will help their careers the most.
Our qualified staff members assist about 1,800 immigrants a year to improve their language skills and their understanding of workplace culture.
Our history
In 2000-2001, the Adult Language Training Branch of the Manitoba government recognized the need for business-specific English language training.
In 2002, the initial program began as a part of Employment Projects of Winnipeg. Pronunciation, listening, and writing classes were delivered by three instructors. Approximately 100 clients were served.
The demand for work-related English training continued to increase and in 2006 the English Skills Centre was formed. In April of 2007 the Centre moved to its own, and current, location at 275 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg.
In 2010, the centre was renamed Enhanced English Skills for Employment. We have over 20 staff and offer classes six days a week. We offer 20 to 25 classes per term and serve about 1,800 students per year.
The success of Enhanced English Skills for Employment is largely due to the hard work and dedication of the staff. Their qualifications, flexibility and creative approach help to ensure that the school will continue to evolve and assist immigrant professionals, business and trades people in meeting their goals.
