Waverley EAL Consulting Inc. operates three separate businesses housed at 275 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg, namely:

Shannon MacFarlane has been the CEO since January 2007. She has more than 30 years experience in Adult Education, teaching culture and leadership classes, French and English in the classroom and the workplace, and she is a certified Language Assessor. She has developed curriculum and delivered a variety of workshops on language teaching, cultural communication and workplace learning, both locally and nationally. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Certificate in Adult and Continuing Education from the University of Manitoba, as well as a Level 3 TESL Certificate.

Teachers and Facilitators

Angela obtained her Bachelor of Science in Ireland and her Masters of Science from the University of Manitoba. She began her career as a volunteer literacy tutor 20 years ago and, since then, has worked as a workplace educator in Manitoba in a wide variety of industries. She has also taught internationally trained pharmacists, teachers and engineers. Angela's other interests include global issues, travelling and biking.
Barbara immigrated to Canada with her family in 1990. She came into the field of EAL from environmental education. Barbara has a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the State University College at Geneseo, in New York State, and a Bachelor in General Science from the University of Manitoba. Barbara received her TESL certificate from the University of Winnipeg. She is a bit of a nature nut and loves to be outdoors.
Cynthia joined EESE in 2008 after earning a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) and teaching in
Dina has been a Writing Centre Instructor since 2007. She has been working in the field of EAL since 2002. Dina has taught English as an additional language in Russia, Israel and in Winnipeg. She earned her Master’s Degree in Linguistics, Pedagogy and Literature in Russia. Also, she received her TESL certificate from the University of Tel Aviv. Being a language learner and an immigrant herself, Dina understands the difficulties that newcomers encounter and frustrations that they experience learning the language. She is always willing to help her students overcome language barriers so that they could enjoy the process of learning English.
Gafur has been working as an EAL teacher for over ten years, four of which were at the Westminster International University in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He earned his Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) in the UK. Having taught English for Academic Purposes, exam preparation and English at Work in Manitoba, Gafur feels most comfortable teaching settlement EAL, largely because he is a relatively new immigrant himself and can relate to experiences of those who have just started treading their paths to success in Canada. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Uzbekistan.
Heather obtained her Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Manitoba. She has an extensive teaching history in the public school system. She began her career as a teacher of Hutterite colony students in multi-grade classrooms. This experience piqued Heather's interest in cross-cultural education. After a few years, she moved to a French Immersion high school where she taught both middle and senior year students in the English stream. Heather's other interests include theatre, travelling and acting in the local community dinner theatre.
Hilda has been teaching EAL for the past two years. Currently she is working part-time at the Entry Program in downtown Winnipeg, as well as facilitating Returning Writing at EESE. Prior to this she taught in the public and private school sytem, in the elementary and middle years grades. She completed here TESOL Certificate in the summer of 2010, and continues to enjoy teaching adults and langauge in the same context.
Kellie obtained her Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology from the University of Winnipeg. She will complete her TESL Certificate at the University of Manitoba in December 2011. Kellie's work history includes teaching preschoolers, parent education and counselling.
Liz has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Winnipeg. After more than 30 years in the financial services industry, where she obtained her Certified Financial Planner Designation, Liz decided to pursue her dream to teach. She completed the CTESL program at the University of Manitoba, and joined our staff in December 2010. Liz is thrilled to be working at EESE, and to have the opportunity to assist all her students as they pursue their personal goals.
Wiktor completed his Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts degrees, majoring in Spanish at Kyiv National Linguistic University in Ukraine. Soon after graduation he moved to Poland where he taught some Spanish, but mostly EFL (English Foreign Language) in both high school and adult education environments for 10 years. Since he came to Canada in 2004, Wiktor has completed a CTESL, PBDE Program and also a number of courses in Ukrainian language and literature - all at the University of Manitoba. He is fluent in Polish, Ukrainian and Russian and can also communicate in German and Spanish.
