Fundamentals of Writing Skills
This course is designed for students at LINC levels 4 and 5. Students will learn and practise the basics of writing. This includes grammar and syntax: sentence structure and types, basic clauses, verb tenses, simple modal verbs, prepositional phrases, and spelling. The course also teaches the writing process: brainstorming, outlining, drafting, editing, proofreading and redrafting. Tone and cultural appropriateness are also emphasized. Students apply what they learn to a variety of types of writing including sentences, notes, paragraphs, emails, letters, and short reports. Student will also have the opportunity to practise filling out different kinds of forms and analyzing and working with basic graphs and tables. Once students have completed Fundamentals of Writing 1&2, they may register for Writing Skills 1&2.
