Reading Skills
Students enrolled in the Reading Skills course learn skills and strategies to improve their reading speed and comprehension. A variety of texts are used, including workplace, academic and settlement materials and documents.
Reading Skills 1 includes basic reading skills: skimming and scanning, identifying new words, main idea and key details, summarizing and paraphrasing, inference, study reading.
Reading Skills 2 reviews the skills from Reading Skills 1 and introduces more advanced skills and strategies: patterns of organization, tone and bias, persuasive techniques and critical reading. Students must take Reading Skills 1 before they can take 2.
Students who complete Reading Skills 1&2 can register for Returning Reading.
