Speaking Skills
Speaking Skills is designed for students who wish to increase their accuracy and fluency in spoken workplace communication. Students learn and practice correct and culturally appropriate language for common workplace speech functions and tasks.
Speaking Skills 1 covers making small talk and introductions, clarifying instructions, presenting opinions and suggestions, interrupting politely, and dealing with sensitive topics.
Speaking Skills 2 includes giving directions, requesting permission, giving updates, taking initiative, and giving feedback. Students must take Speaking Skills 1 before they can take 2.
Speaking Skills Review 1 (A&B;) and 2 (A&B;)
In a series of four 3-hour workshops, students will review and practise the language and soft skills taught in the Speaking Skills courses. The workshops include focused practise with grammar, vocabulary, gambits and idioms, as well as the opportunity to role play a range of speaking tasks in various workplace scenarios. The Speaking Skills Review workshops are available to graduates of Speaking Skills 1, Speaking Skills 2, and Speaking Skills 1&2. They are offered as Speaking Skills Review 1 (parts A&B;) and Speaking Skills Review 2 (parts A&B;). These workshops are offered at various times throughout the year.
